University of Maryland Directory

The University of Maryland Directory uses a technology called Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). LDAP is an industry standard for organizing data of all kinds for easy and flexible retrieval. The Directory may be referred to as the LDAP Directory.

All faculty, staff, and students (as well as sponsored affiliates) have records in the University directory, which contain the standard office and telephone contact information, as well as userID and password information. Applications are increasingly being designed to use the directory for information as well as user ID and password verification.

The Directory is part of the University's middleware initiative. For a better understanding of the University's implementation of Directory, please click here.
